January 22nd at the Independent, San Francisco

The Pimps of Joytime live up to their name. They offer a polished, tight, and funky sound that gets your body moving. The show at the Independent sold out on Saturday night before the band even hit the stage, attesting to the growing popularity of their music. The evening bore the influences of James Brown, Prince, Stevie Wonder, the Headhunters, and Pancho Sanchez all wrapped into a diverse force of musical collaboration.

Outstanding Acts at Outside Lands

THE THIRD ANNUAL OUTSIDE Lands festival, held over the second weekend in August in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, was scaled back a bit compared to the first two events, but it was still jamming with an estimated 80,000 in attendance. A smorgasbord of acts representing myriad genres threw all sorts of stringed goodness at the earholes of eager attendees who flocked from stage to stage.

There is a sonic rumbling that is emanating from the musical underground of Brooklyn, New York, and it has caused booties to shake and quake all over the nation this summer. The Pimps of Joytime, in only their third year of existence, have spent the last few months on the road spreading their sound to the masses offering up their musical menu of funk, soul, Latin, and afrobeat grooves.
